Thanks for keeping this debate honest. The Commonwealth Foundation (read the always humble Matt Brouilette) has declared that "fixed costs" are not a reason to say schools will lose money. Their conclusion is bogus because they take the narrowest view of fixed costs and not a realistic one. They do not count salaries of the custodian, just the ladder he uses. Check with some experts on this and speak out. Also the constitutional issues are real. One way to help the bill would be to level the playing field a little and improve parents ability to choose is to require all students in schools that accept vouchers to take the PSSA test!

George Meredith, in his 1897 classic Essay on Comedy, said that "One excellent test of the civilization of a country (and I will add the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania here) ... I take to be the flourishing of the Comic idea and Comedy; and the test of true Comedy is that it shall awaken thoughtful laughter."

During the Senator's campaign I, a contributor and supporter, urged him to defend himself against the scurrilous attacks on him (he voted to allow driver's to use drugs, etc.) by his opponent. He refused and said he would not "go negative." I believe that all too many candidates use negative advertisements calling their opponents all kids of names and accusing them of all sorts of terrible positions and then they wonder why folks think politicians are incompetent and selfish morons. Senator, can you get a commitment from the respective political parties and their candidates to debate the issues and refrain from ad hominem campaigning and attack tv ads? Until this happens this is the price we and you pay for our elections.

It only seems recently that God has usurped the Tea Party. It had been a movement to let the free market be free, and to let individuals pursue happiness. The free market, which is based on greed, needs a government to set policies in order to ensure civil equality, financial stability, humanity and environmental responsibility. Consider: the PA LGBT community won't dare ask for marriage equality and non-discrimination at the same time; Obama fought against the Mass. lawsuit attempting to treat all their marriages equality; Lancaster Country is working toward disbanding their human relations commission; our financial systems have failed (banks still aren't giving loans); Target can pay the government to reduce its employee wages; and the business of getting shale out of PA is destroying our environment (not to mention the rest of the world's energy industries). I realize powerful people are using the sheep within the Tea Party in order to create a society that can exploit the very same sheep such that we can compete with China and India. However, I see no reason to continue paying gobs of taxes and go deep in debt as an individual and a country when the government isn't working anyway. Until I discovered that God has usurped the Tea Party, I was about to give up on the democrats, civil equality, financial stability, humanity and environmental responsibilities. Heck, we can't get it anyway, so why pay it. As you (Daylin) suggest, I've considered the fact that many tea party leaders think I'm a sheep, but I decided I don't care what they think of me, I'm sick of paying for nothing. The only thing stopping me now is that I don't want their god. With the original Tea Party, I wouldn't have to fight for civil marriage equality, since the Tea Party wouldn't have the government recognize any marriage. But I'd have a hell of a time convincing the new Tea Party that they don't need to use the gays as a scapegoat in order to get people back to church. Of course, lately it seems the Muslims have fallen a rung lower than the evil homosexuals... should I be happy about that?

Senator: First you want to legalize medical weed, then gay marriage, then advocate for women criminals, then speak out in defense of our General Assembly even though everybody knows it is bloated and too self-serving, now you talk about God in politics. Who gives you political advice? Please remember we have crime, global warming and a recession. We still love you, however.

I agree with binzley, would love to see this in the Times or Wall Street Journal. Need to get corporations and those who can and wish to buy influence out of elections, period. When is the last time you saw a corporation handing in their voter registration form?

This is your best blog post yet!

Senator: Absolutely the best written explanation for campaign finance reform I have ever read. Now you are on the side of the reformers and not a defender of the status quo (read Tim Potts). This post should be an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal or New York Times and required reading for all. I gave you money and most times you don't listen to me. Evidently a credit to your integrity.
